After 15 months of seeing a job for the City Public Works Director job come and go, a serious look was taken at Peter and he was asked to come interview. They put Peter, Jeff and I up at the nicest suite at the McCall Hotel for three nights. Peter and I were wined and dined by the city leaders.(well no wine) I was fortunate enough to get to sit with the mayor to my left and had a wonderful chat with him. Very nice and down to earth man. The restaurant was on the lake shore and we were able to look out at the lake as we ate and visited. What a beautiful and quaint little resort town it is! It sits next to Payette Lake, and is surrounded by mountains, one of which has Brundage ski resort on it.
The next day, Peter went through a series of interviews with city personnel and was told he would be notified in a few days. There were 3 other applicants.
The last evening we were there, I saw the first "Sun Dog" in my life. That is a small rainbow that you see on either side of the sun. Usually at sun rise or sun set. It is believed to predict stormy weather within a few days...which we got the next day in the form of a hail storm with hail the size of quarters, followed by rain. Very nice with all the pine trees there.
Leaving was hard. Bitter sweet. We were blessed with a safe and beautiful trip home. The last leg of our journey the most spectacular rainbow I have ever seen appeared and stayed in front of us as we drove for almost an half and hour! I looked at Peter and said, "I think this is a very very good sign." with which Peter agreed.
When we got home and he opened his email, he had a letter already asking when would be a good time to talk on the phone. Here is the really interesting thing. It was sent earlier that evening at the SAME TIME THE RAINBOW APPEARED.
After speaking with the City Manager, Peter was informed he was the one they chose to fill the position.
This morning, I was having my doubts. It's hard to leave Peter's parents and Catherine. And what should appear...little dots of different colors all over me room. The sun was hitting a vase on our dresser just right and casting a kaleidescope of rainbows all around our bed room. And I knew...this is the right thing to do!
