Memorial Weekend 2009

Peter and I took the kids and went to Castledale and spent the weekend with my sister and her hubby. We visited my mothers grave and placed some things there. I made a basket out of a watermellon. I always teased my mother about putting a watermellon on her grave and so I did. As you can see there are a couple of slices for her to enjoy. Then I filled the "basket" with wild yellow roses. These roses are off the same bush Carolyn used to pick and take to Mom when she was at Turnquest.

The other thing we placed at her grave were glass stones. Each had a word or name written on it. "Family", "Love". "Laughter" etc.

All in all, it was a wonderful weekend, even though it rained and rained and rained. A time with family and a time to reflect. I am so grateful for all the wonderful memories of my mother. I love her and hope she enjoys her water mellon!

While my dad was hear we talked about grandma and her watermelon as we ate some.

Sweet memories. I can never eat one now without thinking of her.

I love the basket you made of the watermelon mom! So creative. I didn't notice it until I clicked on the pictures to see them bigger. Thank you for sharing. I can't believe I still haven't made it out that direction for a visit long enough that I could see it for myself.
